About Jaipur ::
Welcome to Pink City

Welcome to Jaipur, the capital of the Desert State of Rajasthan. Jaipur is one of the attraction in the Tourist Golden Triangle, the other two being Delhi, the National Capital and Agra of the Taj Mahal fame.

Jaipur is situated at a distance of 260 kilometers from Delhi and can be reached by road in four and a half-hours time and by flight within an hour.

Jaipur, also known as the pink city was built in the 18th century (1727) by Maharaja Sawai Jaisingh in accordance with shilpa shastra, an ancient Hindu treatise on architecture.

Jaipur is a beautiful and timeless city, where an ancient and the modern co-exist in exciting harmony.

The Amber fort along with the Jaigarh and Naghargarh forts is built on hills at the entrance of Jaipur. The high arches and turrets of the forts punctuate the hills which surround Jaipur. The fortified wall has seven gates built for protection from invading armies and wild animals. Today the city has expanded beyond the walled city.

As one drives into the busy walled city area, the elaborately decorated windows of the Hawa Mahal, built for the royal ladies to view happenings on the main road of the old city, draws the eye and beguiles the imagination.

The city palace where the royal family of the Kacchawaha dynasty still lives, is built in the heart of the city and occupies the whole central grid. A part of the palace is now a museum open to public. Other beautiful palaces are Jaimahal and Rambagh. Both are now hotels and their grandeur is accessible to tourists who can enjoy a refreshing drink or dine on the elegant terraces.

Jaipur is also a shopper's city. It is not an exaggeration to say that many tourists extend their stay in the city beyond the sight-seeing trips to the forts and museums, to enjoy the extensive shopping options especially for fabrics and jewellery. Jaipur is a home to thriving block-printing as well as gem cutting industries. The range of textiles, ready-made garments and ornaments as well as gem stones available is staggering.

A walk down the main Johari Bazar with its busy alleyways or gullies and the Mirza Ismail Road (M.I Road) offers much. Vegetable dyed block printed fabric in vibrant colours, attractive soft handmade cotton duvets, blue pottery vases, bowls and even door knobs and hand-crafted camel leather footwear and bags make shopping a great delight. Diamonds, rubies, emeralds and semi precious jewels set in silver and gold are other shopping attractions.

Jaipur is a city of fairs & festivals. There is a saying that it celebrates 9 festivals in any 7 days! It is no surprise that gaiety always prevails in the atmosphere.
